Dr. Craig Baehr

Faculty Sponsor

Craig Baehr, Ph.D., is an STC Associate Fellow and Professor of Technical Communication and Rhetoric at Texas Tech University, with 24 years of technical communication experience.

 

He currently serves as the Vice President of STC as well as a Director-at-large on the STC Board of Directors. Additionally, he serves as Chief Examiner of the Certified Professional Technical Communicator Program at STC, chairs the Technical Communication Body of Knowledge (TCBOK) project.

​

He is author of three books:

  • Web Development: A Visual-Spatial Approach

  • Writing for the Internet: A Guide to Real Communication in Virtual Space

  • The Agile Communicator.

 

Dr. Baehr and has published material on a wide range of topics, including instructional design, content strategy, hypertext theory, online publishing, and visual communication.

​

Previously, he worked in industry as a technical writer, editor, Web developer, and program director for ten years for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He has been a member of STC since 2000.

Heavenly Freeman earned her BA in Technical Communication from Texas Tech University. She is currently working on her Masters of Arts in Technical Communication.

She is currently a graduate instructor and teaches ENG 1301 to young minds!

​

She hopes to one day complete her PhD in Technical Communication

Jelilat Adesiyan

Jelilat Adesiyan is currently working on her Doctorate in Technical Communication and Rhetoric.

 

She earned her Masters of Science in Technical Communication at the university of Houston-Downtown. This is also where she completed her Bachelors of Arts in English with minors in Professional Communication and creative Writing.

​

Her research interests are in the software development design cycle, usability, content management and intercultural technical communication.

​

She hopes to one day complete her dissertation research. She plans to advance the field of Technical Communication by introducing it as a Degree or certificate Program in Nigeria.

Vice President

Rebekah Smith is currently earning her Masters in Technical Communication and Rhetoric from Texas Tech University.

 

She previously attended Southern Utah University and graduated with a BA in English Literature and a certificate in technical writing. At Southern Utah University she also worked as a writing tutor, writing fellow, student director of the SUU Writing Center, and assistant to the Writing Program Director.

​

Since graduating, Rebekah has co-authored a grant funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, written program materials supporting the launch of Library Aide Basics (a training intended for paraprofessionals working in elementary school libraries), carried out and copy-edited a private biography project, and has a forthcoming publication in The American Biology Teacher.

 

Her current technical and professional interests are as varied as her writing experiences. She will be diversifying her portfolio by studying document design, online publication, technical editing, visual and sensory rhetorics, and user-centered design. To further apply her learning, Rebekah will complete an internship with the McNair Scholars Program at Texas Tech in Spring 2020.

Daisy Flores earned her BA in Technical Communication from Texas Tech University. She is currently working on her Masters of Arts in Technical Communication.

​

She hopes to incorporate her education and experiences at Texas Tech University in her future career in Technical Communication with a concentration in Personal Finance.

​

She hopes to one day work with underprivileged communities, young adults, as well as members of the community that might be struggling with poverty or other financial struggles.
